Bismuth [Bism]:

- Jan Scholten

My God, my God, why hast Thou deserted me?

The remedy we know as Bismuth is Bismuth subnitricum rather than pure Bismuth. Bismuth telluride and Bismuth selenide can cause granulomatous long affections (Dreisbach).

Signature The name is either derived from the German word Wissmuth, meaning white mass, or from the German word Wiese, meaning meadow, because a meadow is often covered in red poppies, just like Bismuth which gets a red hue from a thin layer of Bismuthoxide.

Miners sometimes called it tectum argenti, or roof of silver, because silver was often found underneath a layer of Bismuth.

Another word that Bismuth might be named after is the Arabic phrase bi smid, meaning: having properties of antimony. It was discovered in 1450 and its chemical symbol is Bi.

Bismuth is a brittle, coarse, crystalline grey metal with a reddish hue. it is found in nature in little crystals amongst other metals such as tin, copper, silver, gold and uranium. It is possible to create beautiful large crystals of Bismuth with artificial methods. It expands on being cooled. Bismuth melts at 271 C. The alloys melt at even lower temperatures (down to 47 degrees C), which makes them useful as fire alarms and fuses.

Bismuth is used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. It creates beautiful transparent crystals with a reddish silvery sheen.

Picture of Bismuth

Essence: bankrupt of the ruling powers.

Loss of power

They are losing and really have to say farewell to power. They have to end their career as a director, to abdicate as a king. It may be that their whole organi-sation has become superfluous. It may also be that their successors are throwing them out. They may even be robbed of all their medals and all their dignity.

Refusing to abdicate

Sometimes they wont go without protest. They become dictatorial and fight the powers that are trying to take over. They are easily angered and feel offended by the slightest remarks. But it is no use, it is inevitable that they eventually have to surrender. The actual take over may be accompanied by bloodshed, murder or poisoning.

Power is poisonous, it corrupts

They may see that the takeover of power is inevitable so they set the thing in motion themselves. They have developed an aversion to power and all the corruption, arrogance and dictatorial tendencies that go with it.

Alone in isolation

The most well known feeling of Bismuth is the feeling of being alone. They feel alone as king and it is made worse by the fact that the reign is being taken away from them. The desire for human warmth and contact becomes even stronger. When they are little they want their mother to be near all the time. They will hold on to her hand all day if they get a chance. It is the situation of My God, my God, why hast thou abandoned me.

Preferring death rather than loss of honour

A typical them is probably harakiri, the ritual suicide that is practised in Japan. The high powered person who hasn't been able to live up to his responsibilities will at least retain his honour if he commits suicide. He stabs his sword into his stomach and pushes it up to his heart.

Bismuth is really losing all power, can't even keep the pretence up any more. Case Bismuthum subnitricum A mother is bringing her 5 year old son because he has many colds. He has a heavy cough, especially when he goes outside (2), and when his hair gets wet. His mother always wraps him up well to prevent this. His cough is worse at night in bed, it goes on and on, from 9 pm to 5 am, but it is worst around 11 pm. He gets stomach pains from all this coughing. He has much green mucus coming from his nose. He has some mollusca, on the side of his left thigh, in the hollow of his right knee and between his eyes. The palms of his hands are peeling. His mother suffered from blocked ovaries so he was conceived through IVF. When he was a baby he didn't want to sleep during the day, he cried a lot, and only stopped when his mother took him out for a walk. He used to sleep well at night. In the winter he used to get short of breath. He had pseudocroup when he was 5 months old. He is always, busy, restless, bursting with energy. He loves playing with other children and he is doing well at school. But he is short tempered and easily offended when you say something to him. He crawls into a corner after being admonished. He needs attention all the time and cannot tolerate it when his mother talks with someone else. He will start to pull at her skirt or simply runs away so that she has to run after him to get him back. As long as he is having contact with his mother everything is fine. During the consultation he is leaning against his mother and holding her hand. He is a sweet little boys and will readily give a kiss to anyone. Generals Weather: (<) damp, rain (2); (>) sun.

Time: (<) 11 pm; (>) summer, (<) autumn. Desires: sour (3), chips. Aversion: sweet cakes, raw meat. Food: smell of cheese makes him sick. Sleep: grinds his teeth, kicks around until he is uncovered. Analysis The aggravation from being alone is very strong in this case, and together with the fact that he has to hold his mothers hand all the time, it is really a very strong indication for Bismuth. I prescribed Bismuth, not realising that this was really Bismuth subnitricum. The remedy had to be in the Gold series because he is bursting with energy, short tempered, easily offended and very sensitive to admonition. Perhaps the IVF (Gold-, Silver series) because of blocked (Stage 15) ovaries is a typical symptom. Other Bismuth symptoms: (<) damp, (>) sun, (<) 11 pm, (>) summer.

Reaction

After Bismuth subnitricum 1M there is an immediate improvement.

The colds disappear within one month, he doesnt grind his teeth anymore and the molluscs are fading. He is more independent, less short tempered and much more stable and calm.

Case by Anton Kramer

A 1 year old little boy has recurrent fevers, (<) 11 pm (Bismuth).

At those time he refuses to be on his own (stage 15), always wants to hold his mothers hand (Bismuth). At other times he can be quite independent, as long as he knows is mother is near. He could only sleep when his mother was carrying him or let him sleep outside. He is quite hot tempered and bossy (Gold series) towards his 2 year older brother. His dictatorial (Gold series) grandfather had suffered from concentration camp syndrome and stomach cancer (Bismuth). After Bismuth 1M the boys problems disappeared completely.
