Syzygium jambolanum uses in Diabetes mellitus, is a syndrome with disordered metabolism resulting in increased blood sugar level. Insulin, the hormone produced by the pancreas, controls blood sugar. Diabetes can be caused by insufficient insulin or resistance of body cell to insulin, or both. Type 1 diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), is characterized by a lack of insulin production predominantly due to destruction of pancreatic islet β cells. Type 2 diabetes, also know as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), is due to body’s ineffective use of, or resistance to insulin. This is the most common form of diabetes. It often results from excess body weight and physical inactivity. Many homoeopathic medicines have long been used to treat and manage type 2 diabetes. Syzygium jambolanum 1x is considered at the top.1,2,3

Type 2 diabetes usually occurs in adulthood, but young people are increasingly being diagnosed with this disease. It is becoming more common due to increasing obesity, failure to exercise and lifestyle problems. Many people with type 2 diabetes do not present any symptom, although it is a serious condition. It is found only in the laboratory tests. Plasma glucose level more than 125mg/dl after an overnight fasting on more than one occasion is the main criteria to diagnose type 2 diabetes. Early symptoms of type 2 diabetes include increased appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, fatigue, frequent or slow healing of infections, etc. Hypertension, dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis are often associated. If untreated it may end with wide range of complications such as high blood pressure, damage to blood vessels, stroke, high cholesterol, diabetic neuropathy, foot sores, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, glaucoma and kidney failure.1,2,3
Syzygium jambolanum is officially covered by both Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India and German Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia.4,5 Literatures indicate that this remedy decreases the amount of sugar in the urine in diabetes mellitus.6 It has an effect on the blood sugar, lowers it almost immediately.7 Useful in symptoms of diabetes such as great thirst, weakness, emaciation, very large amount of urine, high specific gravity, diabetic ulceration.8 Apart from these clinical observations many scientific in vitro and in vivo studies have revealed and confirmed its antihyperglycemic activity and its influence on carbohydrate and lipid metabolisms.9,10,11
