Points in Repertory Use.

  - American Institute of Homoeopathy, 65th Session, 1910, 1st. That the best proven remedies are the more frequently selected, thus indicating an imperfection in the system.  2d. That five or ten well selected and prominent symptoms frequently give the same remedy selection as when from fifty to one hundred slips are selected.  3d. That in all chronic cases Sulphur and Psorinum are the more frequently indicated.  4th. That even in the most careful selection results do not always indicate that the repertory has given the right remedy.  5th. The off-hand prescribing and the repertory will frequently make the same choice of a remedy.  6th. That as far as I am able to judge, the confidence of my patient is not shaken by my use of the repertory in their presence.  7th. By being attentive to your symptoms and noting the remedy selected, the more one uses the repertory the more efficient off-hand prescriber one becomes.  8th. That w...

The complete repertory

Image
-  IRHIS Publishers, Leidschendam, The Netherlands  Mind-Generalities by Roger van Zandvoort, 2,799 pp. IRHIS  Reviewed by Greg Bedayn The Complete Repertory is f i n a l l y complete! Roger van Zandvoort has recently finished his monumental task of compiling the largest, most complete, and most accurate repertory in the history of homeopathy.  Using Kent's Repertory as the core, van Zandvoort poured in the contents of every reliable repertory he could put his hands on, including the unique personal repertory's of Pierre Schmidt and von Bönninghausen. He then went through every rubric and traced them to their origins, when he could, to confirm them as valid -he has even listed the page number of the original text for each rubric for precision reference! He changed previously confusing abbreviations to more easily understood versions. He moved the most important word in many rubrics to be read first, ie: during urination was changed to urination, during. The h...

Guide to kent's repertory

Image
- Hahnemann International Institute for Homeopathic Documentation ISBN: 3-929271-06-0, 1996, 250 pages, pbk. by Ahmed Currim, M.D. , Ph. D Reviewed by Jay Yasgur.  With his recently published Guide To Kent's Repertory, Dr. Currim offers a detailed overview of Kent's Repertory. This guide consists of twenty sections of which the first 12 serve as an introduction to Kent's massive work which has served countless homeopaths the world over. In these dozen essays (25 pages) Ahmed discusses 'Kent's Original Plan', 'Problems with Existing Repertories', 'The Classification of Symptoms', 'Modifications of Symptoms', 'Construction of Rubrics,' and offers a number of 'Notes and Examples.'  The thirteenth section, consists of one hundred pages and concentrates on pain. This chapter, 'Descriptions of Pain,' is the major portion of the book, and is of great value. Pain, admittedly one of the most frequent complaints homeop...

The treasure hunt : a history of Kent's repertory and Kent's own corrections

Image
Ahmed n. currim. m.d. , ph.d.    (This paper was presented at the LIGA meeting in Washington, D.C. , March 1987).  Introduction   Ihad already realized, as a medical student in 1972, that the third and later American editions of Kent's Repertory had many printing mistakes. It was surprising that these errors had not been rectified by Dr. Kent. However, on closer examination, I realized that the publication of the third edition appeared after June 5, 1916, the date of Dr. Kent's death. It occurred to me that Dr. Kent never had the chance to correct these errors.  Logically, I tried to locate the second edition of the Repertory.   I spoke to Mr. Roger Ehrhart in 1972, while he was still alive, but he could not give me much help. He was the last surviving member of the Ehrhart family, who owned the famous homeopathic pharmacy of Ehrhart and Karl and were the original publishers of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth American editions of the ...

An interview with Roger Van Zandvoort , American Homeopathy 2000

Image
- Interviewed by amy l. lansky, phd Roger Van Zandvoort AH: How do you decide which remedy provings you are going to include in the repertory?  VZ: My rule always has been to only include provings that are at least basically Hahnemannian. This means that they should be provings done in the way that Hahnemann said you should do provings. For example, dream provings, or contact provings, where you put the remedy under the pillow, sleep the night, and tell your dreams and other changes that you notice-these provings, up till now, I don't include. Group provings I also do not include. I do not say that they are necessarily not okay, but there is simply not enough experience among the proving masters to deal with them in such a way that the observed symptoms will be useful for homeopathic practice. It's a kind of doubt that I have, that I share with other people. It's a difficult field to make rules for. So this is mostly why.  AH: How do decide whether you are going t...

The boenninghausen method

Image
- The boenninghausen method (J. Winston) Boenninghausen  Therapuetic Pocket book Over the ten days in March 2000 that I spent with K. H. Gypser in Germany, we discussed many topics including the methodology of Boenninghausen who, Gypser says, was (along with Lippe in the USA) the best of the old prescribers. He said it very clearly: Hahnemann was the experimenter. If you want philosophy, look to Hahnemann. But if you want to see the Method in practice, look to Boenninghausen.  Unfortunately, much of Boenninghausen's work is unavailable in English. His Lesser Writings was printed in English in 1908, but several of his pieces did not appear in this compilation. His largest work, The Aphorisms of Hippocrates, with the Glosses of a Homoeopathist was due to be published in the US in 1863, but the Civil War intervened and by the time the War ended in 1865, Boenninghausen had died. Although extracts were printed in some English language journals about 25 years ago, the book ...

The Boenninghausen repertory therapeutic pocket book method

Image
- Edited by george Dimitriadis  J. winston Boenninghausen The first homeopathic repertory ever printed was the Repertory of Anti-Psoric Medicines by Boenninghausen in 1832. Now, it is fitting that the first repertory to be printed in this new millennium is again by Boenninghausen.  The Boenninghausen Therapeutic Pocket Book was first printed in 1846, and was the end result of Boenninghausen's work. It has been in print for years. It was translated into English by a number of people-Okie in 1847, Hempel in 1847, T. F. Allen in 1891. In 1935, H. A. Roberts, a devotee of Boenninghausen, wrote a long article about how to use the book which was included in all subsequent printings of the Allen work by Boericke and Tafel. The recent Indian editions are of the same book.  Yet, despite its accessibility as a book, the use of the book had remained fairly inaccessible unless one was fortunate enough to study with an old prescriber who knew how to use it.  The metho...
