PREFACE
The method of therapeutics, which will produce a cure in the surest and easiest manner, with absolute safety to the patient, shall claim our attention.
The complicated cases should not be too quickly turned over to the surgeon, simply because they are such.
Fissure is one of these; and when we consider the curability of rhagades elsewhere and of healing ulcers where the excavation has been deep and the loss of tissue is considerable, we should renew the search for the homoeopathic remedy with very great hope of success. Fistula however less promising and prolapsus requires the internal remedy alone.
When a sensation exists which seems inconsistent with associated condition the homoeopathicians once recognize its importance.
The subjective symptoms and the conditions of aggravations and ameliorations are of importance than the objective indications.
Applying cold cream for piles is advisable as the mucous membrane so soon becomes dry and readily irritated.
The use of unmedicated glycerin suppositories will sometimes aid difficult defecation and a cluster of warm water is often having good effect.
In difficult cases where strangulation is going to happen, a horizontal position should be recommended. But let not the incredulous physician take fright.
The indicated internal remedy has lessened inflammation and promoted relaxation and resolution and can do it again.
Totality of symptoms does not refer to the drug but to the patient and that it must not be expected that a case will represent all the symptoms any medicine, on ht other hand the remedy should contain al the prominent indications of the patient.
As in all troubles a certain number of remedies are found to be indicated oftener than the others. Study them carefully in cases that seem devoid of characteristics. E.g., Aesculus, Aloes, Muriatic acid, Sulphur in hahmorhoids.
Aesculus in cases where backache is prominent.
Aloes when itching is the most troublesome symptom.
Muriatic acid when tenderness is excessive.
Sulphur in cases that have been maltreated with ointments.
Aggravation an amelioration in general as found in other repertoires should be consulted if need be to confirm the selection of remedy.
Concomitant symptoms are of importance in choosing the medicine.
