Helium [Heli]:
- Jan Scholten
There is no record of the remedy Helium in homoeopathic literature.
Signature
The name is derived from Helios the sun and the sun God. The element was first discovered in 1868 in the spectrum of the sunlight.
It is being formed inside the sun through a fusion between hydrogen atoms, and the energy that is released during this nuclear reaction is the energy that radiates out from the sun.
Helium is an odourless and colourless gas, just like the other rare gases, and it does not react with any other element.
It is being used to fill balloons, because it so light. Hydrogen is an even lighter gas, but it is very inflammable, as we know from the Zeppelin disaster. When Helium is cooled down and becomes liquid (below 4K) it acquires some very curious characteristics: it becomes super-conductive, it doesn't not have any electrical resistance anymore and it climbs up the walls of containers as if it is defying gravity.

The Helium picture
Essence: autism.
Withdrawal of the individual: autism
Autism is a very appropriate word for Helium. They don't feel like entering this world. They prefer to stay in themselves to experience their own being. They are not interested in finding out about values and meaning in life.
They don't feel any affinity with those matters, they simply live. They have gone through the process of incarnation, they accept they are here and they don't doubt that fact. But they don't want to be involved in the why and wherefores of their existence.
Their behaviour makes is very difficult to understand for other people. You can't get a grip on them, as if they are slipping away through your fingers each time you try and establish contact. This can be seen in autistic children. they wont let you come near. You can do what you like with them, they simply wont react. They remain locked up inside themselves, unapproachable and distant.
Psychosis
They react in a typically psychotic manner. Their sense of reality has not been developed and they don't know who they are. But the psychosis is not externalised, they don't interact with the outside world. It is as if they only act from within themselves.
Dementia Hospitalisation syndrome This withdrawal may also take place at a later age. This may turn into something that looks like dementia. The chronic hospitalisation syndrome is a pattern that is linked to this. It can be seen particularly in psychiatric patients who, through continuous use of anti psychotic and anti-depressive medicines, may eventually become complete zombies, or vegetables, they have no conscious life of their own anymore.
Unborn Rest: foetus
This is also the stage of the foetus who doesn't have to do anything. he floats around in the amniotic fluid, nice and warm. He can let his urine and stools go without any worries or efforts, no effort to eat, drink or breathe either.
Expressions
Delusions: being a king or an eagle.
Mood: light, fast, lovely, heavenly, unity, calm, stable, content, peaceful, warm, no effort, nice, universal happiness, happy, contemplative, gloomy.
Contact: (<) company; (>) being alone on top of a mountain.
Complaints
Vertigo, lightheaded, as if floating.
Lying down or crawling bodily along the floor. They like to keep their body in touch with the earth, or they climb up tables and chairs like a snake.
High pitched voice, like Donald Duck.
DD: Hydrogen, Carbon series, Stage 18, Opium, Helleborus.
Case
A 10 year old girl with Downs syndrome, who is more disabled than is usually the case in these children. She is autistic and it is very difficult to make contact with her. She does make some sounds, but only her mother can understand some of these. When she sits she lets her head hang down and she rocks backwards and forwards. She prefers lying on the floor with her arms and legs stretched out. She likes pressing her head to the ground and to cold and hard surfaces. She crawls over chairs and sofas and also likes to hang on people whom she likes, but she hardly reacts to what they do or say. She often puts her shoe in her mouth. She is a little bit like Houdini, she can get out of anything that constrains her.
Her eyesight is very poor, only 5-10 percent, the pressure in her left eye is raised and she has cataracts on both sides. She also has a squint.
Generals
Weather: cold, (>) wind, (>) sea.
Time: (>) at night.
Desires: coffee (3), alcohol (3), coca cola (3), chocolate (3).
Aversion: sweet.
Food: (>) alcohol.
Sleep: sleeplessness, can play all night; sleeps on stomach with her face pressed into the pillow.
Analysis
The most obvious characteristic in this case is the autism. I have treated Downs syndrome in the past for colds and snuffles and other complaints, but no remedy ever seemed to touch their autistic tendencies. When I was studying the periodic table I thought at first that we could exclude the rare gases from my list of potentially useful remedies because they don't react with any other element. Until It suddenly struck me that the fact that they don't react to anything is the very property of these gases that typifies their behaviour, and that would therefore typify the cases where they could be usefully applied, such as cases of autism. That is why I gave this little girl Helium.
Reaction
After Helium 1M there is a gradual but very definite improvement.
She begins to talk more clearly, she is no longer afraid of other children, instead shell join them in their games. She doesn't lie on the floor so much anymore, she will often sit quietly in a chair. She lets herself be put to bed without fuss. After 6 months and a few doses of Helium she is still developing and improving. The teacher at school is lyrical about her progress.
