Native of North America. It has very tough, hard, knotted root.
Proved twice -- first by Burt of Illinois (tincture) and later by Dowla (powder).
As domestic remedy and among eclectics, it is known as remedy for chronic catarrhal condition, esp. stomach, bowels and bladder, also of nose, pharynx and larynx and in tubular and capillary bronchitis
Region: pelvis – anus, rectum, uterus, bowels. Heart. Pharynx. Liver
Worse: Piles – during, suppressed. Night, pregnancy, cold, excitement.
Through spinal nerves it acts on whole intestinal canal esp. small intestines and rectum. Liver, kidneys, and heart also affected by it.
Pelvic and portal congestion resulting in haemorrhoids and constipation, esp. in females.
Pruritus in pregnancy with piles. Haemorrhoids esp. in later months of pregnancy.
Dropsy from cardiac disease. Constipation of children from intestinal atony.
Obstinate and habitual constipation with haemorrhoids.
Severe weight in the rectum with intense irritation, itching, and sensation in the rectum as if sticks, sand or gravel has lodged there.
Pain in epigastrium in constipation and piles.
Pure mucus stools or mucus stools mixes with dark substances. Before stool severe pain in lower abdomen, during stool tenesmus, after stool little pain and vomiting.
Flowing piles, haemorrhage incessant though not profuse, with alternate constipation and diarrhoea. Protruding haemorrhoids. Painful bleeding piles.
Alternate constipation and diarrhoea, and great flatulence. Itching of anus. Acrid diarrhoea.
Varicocoel with extreme constipation. Prolapse of rectum with piles.
Cardiac diseases where haemorrhoids and constipation are most prominent symptoms. Heart affections alternating with suppressed haemorrhoidal bleeding.
