Astatinum [Asta]:

- Jan Scholten

Astatinum is an unknown remedy. It has not been potentised yet, partly because it has such a short lifespan.

If we look at the three main miasms, psora, sycosis and syphilis, in relation to the periodic table we can see that there are certain similarities. The upper periods are rather psoric, the Ferrum series is mainly sycotic, and the Gold series containing Aurum, Mercurius and Plumbum are mainly syphilitic. Going from left to right in each individual period we can see a similar trend. On the left side we see the psoric remedies who are being confronted with a problem, in the middle we see the sycotic remedies who are trying to solve the problem, and on the right side we find the syphilitic remedies, such as Fluorine, Bromium and Iodum, who want to give up. So there is an increasing syphilitic tendency going from left to right and from the top towards the bottom. Astatinum is at the very bottom, furthest to the right, so it is the most syphilitic remedy of them all. The very short lifespan of Astatinum is further proof of its destructive tendency.

Signature

The name Astatinum is derived from the Greek word a-statos, meaning unstable.

It only has a short lifespan, the average half life of the various isotopes is only about 7 to 8 hours. Its chemical symbol is At. Concentrations of Astatinum can be found in the thyroid gland.

Picture of Astatinum

Essence: being sentenced to death.

Condemned by the king: sentenced to death

One of the themes of this stage is that the death sentence. These people have been sentenced by the highest authority, either the king or God. This may be accompanied by the feeling of having failed or of being guilty, which only makes matters worse. They try and ask for pardon, by pleading and begging, or by a haughty display of arrogance. We might compare this situation to the one of an AIDS patient, who has has just received the diagnosis, knowing that this is a death sentence. He often feels guilt about his sexual behaviour, which was the likely cause of the disease.

Becker (personal comment) told me that certain prisoners developed AIDS after they had volunteered to partake in experiments with radio-active materials in exchange for a pardon of their death sentence. There are probably other forms of fatal disease that will fit the Astatinum picture.

Renounced as king

They have no more say in matters of state, however powerful they may have been in the past. They try to hold on to their rights and their dignity as a ruler, but they are being banned and have to flee their country, so they cannot take responsibility for their people anymore.

Letting go of power: anarchist

They let go of the whole idea of power, they are real anarchists.

They don't even fight against it anymore, because that would mean they still recognised the existence of power.

Banned because of his abuse of power

They may have been banned because of their abuse of power. They neglected their responsibilities as a leader and now they are sentenced to death or to exile. There is nowhere to escape to because the world is limited and you will always be found.

Astatinum has to let go of everything, he is sentenced to death and has no opportunity to even think about the old days, although he will do everything he can to ask for pardon.

DD Mercurius: is more revolutionary, rather than anarchistic. The revolutionist fights against the ruling powers, the anarchist simply denies the existence of any power.
