A CONCISE REPERTORY OF HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES

• Dr. S.K.Phatak was basically an allopathic doctor with MBBS degree . He had sound knowledge about Homoeopathic organon and philosophy , materia medica and various Repertories . His other contribution to Homoeopathic field are :
• Repertory of Bio – chemic remedies .
• Homoeopathic materia medica and repertory of homoeopathic medicines .
• Materia medica of Homoeopathic medicines.

SOURCE OF REPERTORY
• Dr.S.K.Phataks concise alphabetical repertory is based on the Repertory part of Synoptic Key to materia medica by CM Bogar. However it contains innumerable additions both in rubrics and remedies so that it is like a much enlarged and improved version of the synoptic Key .The addition made by Dr. S.K.Phatak are from other standard book and repertories like Boericke , Kent , Therapeutic pocket etc. and also from his own case taking and accurate clinical observation.

STORY OF THIS BOOK
• His friend Mr. S.K.Kapadia who knew about the idea , unexpectedly came to his help . One day he came to author to fill up the gaps . Check and recheck it . This skeleton work was prepared from the author rough draft notes of Marathi repertory.

• Thus after the initative pain taken by Mr. Kapadia , Dr.SK Phatak arranged the work properly rewrote it and made many additions .
• Mr. Kapadia induced my son to get it printed Mr. DP Dalay , who promised all help and understood the composing work – was printed in September 1963.

PLAN OF THE BOOK
• In this repertory the headings mental generals , modalities , organs and their subparts are all arranged according to their alphabetical order .
• All physiological and pathological condition such as appetite , aversion ,desire , nausea , vomiting , thirst, fever , pulse etc. are also included in alphabetical order.
• Cross reference are given wherever necessary .

• Causation are given under aggravation both general and particular for general modalities. The word aggravation and amelioration while under particular rubrics written ordinary aggravation and amelioration, mental attitudes are found under mental condition , appearance of symptoms on one side , symptoms going upwards and downwards etc. are given under directions of symptoms.

• GENERALS AND PARTICULAR- Many generals symptoms have been coined from particular symptoms .This knack is the secret of the Boger method :

PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION:
• Third edition published after 23 years .
• Number of pages have increased partly of bigger type ( new addition are marked with “+” mark).
• Dr. D.S.Phatak added 46 main rubrics and 827 sub rubrics.

• THE FOURTH EDITION:
• Dr. C.Jeevanandam is a great lover of homoeopathy and has tremendous admiration for Dr. Phatak repertory and it was the same spirit that he want through the book word by word to print out all the mistake and design the new user – friendly format.

• PHILOSOPHY OF BOOK:
Modalities and concomitants are the most important factors for finding a correct remedy . The modality regarding the position or posture of a patient may be more valuable .
The aversion,desire, mental attitudes ,causation the appearance of symptoms on one side or going upward or downward etc. Give a clue to the selection of the remedy if they are very marked .

10.Dr. Phatak followed Boger’s Synoptic key,he had given much importance to modalities.
11.There are number of clinical and pathological rubrics which help in selecting a remedy.
12. Alphabetical arrangement so easy to find.
13.Limited number of remedies and rubrics.

CRITICISM
• No originality can be claimed in the book.
• Mental symptoms are scattered.
• Rubrics and remedies are minimized.
• Exact source of word are known.
• A concise repertory can never replace repertories like Kent.
• No full remedy index 114 only.
