CHESTNUT BUD:Bach Remedies

- Dr. D.V. Krishnamoorty.

Unable to learn in spite of repeated lessons or experiences and Escapist mentality are the two important key-words that should be borne in mind while memorising the symptoms of Chestnut bud.

A boy of eight was getting only single digit marks in his school examinations. He was given private coaching by separate teachers on three subjects. Still he could not come up. Chestnut bud was given thrice daily. A few weeks after this he started studying well and even said he did not require private tuition as he could study the lessons by himself. In the subsequent quarterly examinations he got double digit marks and in due course could study well and get marks above the average in the final examinations.

Let us now see how escapist mentality operates in some children.

A lady had great troubles in teaching her seven-year old son. Whenever she took out the books and started teaching he would complain of colic. This is different from CHICORY type of child who, when sick, exaggerates his complaints merely to get sympathy, care or attention from others. CHESTNUTBUD may sickness to escape from his duties and responsibilities---escapist mentality.

He made this excuse a resort to escape from the lessons.

We often find in our homes that children want to escape from studies by saying that they would read the books only if they are first given biscuits or some other particular thing; or, only if they are first allowed to play in the street for half-an-hour. But, after playing, he will find some other excuse to escape from study. He says he is very tired after playing will and so wants rest. If he is forced further he will complain of sleepiness etc. He find every conceivable means to escape from studying the lessons.

Let us now examine the other symptom unable to learn from repeated experiences.

In spite of repeated efforts and trials he is unable to learn cycling. This is not owing to dullness of mind or low I.Q. as in popularly but wrongly considered by allopaths and also by laymen. Chestnutbud cannot increase ones intelligence. Although a man may study the most polished treatises, the knowledge which fate had decreed to him will still prevail Thirukkural 373. In fact, it is only the over-intelligent persons who use their intelligence to find ways and means to escape from their responsibilities by offering lame excuses. Every one of us has been given at birth a certain amount of intelligence to fulfill some task in our life. Unable to learn from repeated experiences is because of lack of observation, or indifference or from hurry and inattention. Chestnutbud just removes such lack of observation and it is incorrect to think that it increases ones Brain power.

In a Government office, a clerk becomes indifferent to his work and, therefore, tries to avoid the work and responsibilities. When a task is given he hides the relevant files and under the guise of file not readily available he tries to avoid the work. A typist may say his typewriter has developed some trouble by purposely causing some defect himself; he wants to escape from the work and gives all sort of lame excuses.

When the servant is marking time and shirking responsibilities, we should not give him warnings but a liberal quantity of Chestnutbud should be supplied to him. It will remove his escapist mentality and the consequent offering of lame escapist (This indifference of Chestnutbud type is not similar to WILD ROSE where the servant will not even go to his work. This is because WILD ROSE type of person is not even interested in the salary. But chestnutbud type of person wants salary but is not willing to do the work.) If a servant is lazy and tends to postpone his work then SCLERANTHUS is, of course, the remedy. He is always late for office. He really wants to be prompt but the same old story is repeated. Give him SCLERANTHUS and he is very prompt in attendance and also doing the work. Flower Remedies do not give anything to the mind or body; they only remove negative feelings and attitudes.

Slow in learning is another key-note of this remedy. Such persons are nicknamed tube-light. When a person is unable to learn, say, swimming or cycling or driving in spite of repeated lessons or exercises, he says Do not force me to learn it-- a desire to escape. Unable to learn new subjects, languages, motor driving, all can be cured by Chestnutbud. The task of the school- master running a Car Driving School becomes easy. He can save a lot of time and energy, (in these days of price hike in petroleum products) by giving Chestnutbud to those tube-light persons.

If the learner is in a confused state then SCLERANTHUS will help him to learn quickly. If he is of day-dreaming type, then CLEMATIS is to be thought of. Any one of the thirty-eight remedies may be needed for a child that gets only single digit marks or is very poor in his studies. Chestnutbud symptoms are frequently seen in many children and so we have given the above description. We have received reports from some of our readers that they gave Chestnutbud to a few children and it did not help. This is because they have given Chestnutbud as a remedy for getting more marks instead of considering the patient--his moods and disposition. Let us reiterate here that we have to treat the patient, give the remedy that suits his conditions irrespective of the difficulties, be it slow-learning, eczema or any other trouble. Chestnutbud is not the routine remedy in all cases of Slow-learning.

The state of Chestnutbud mentality is different from LARCH and HORNBEAM. The LARCH type of person never makes an attempt to learn a foreign language saying that he is too intelligent to learn it. HORNBEAM may think that he has not the strength of mind to grasp a subject quickly and so he may ask for brain or nerve- tonics.

Dr. BACH

Many people still write and ask us how to pronounce Dr. Bachs name. Although the family is of Welsh origin, where Bach is pronounced in the same way as the composers Bach. However, in the medical profession Dr. Bach was always known as Batch, and those who knew him so well, continue to call him by that pronounciation--Batch.

NO KNOWLEDGE OF PSYCHOLOGY OR STUDY OF PSYCHO-ANALYSIS IS REQUIRED FOR PRESCRIBING FLOWER REMEDIES

Surely one needs to be a trained psychologist in order to prescribe these Remedies? People rite to us. In this work there is no need to make a study of what is described as psychology. Neither is it necessary to have a knowledge of psycho-analysis. In the hands of unqualified and inexperienced people this practice can be dangerous, and can prove a painful and sometimes humiliating experience for the patient.

Flower Healing demands no delving into the patients sub- conscious in an endeavour to drag to the surface the object of his fears. People fear many different things, but it is the fear that counts, therefore it is sufficient only to ascertain that the patient is being trouble, by fear no matter of what. It is the fear, the attitude of mind, that matters and not the object causing the fear.

People who suffer from depression are not all depressed about the same things or in the same set of circumstances. Even though the circumstances are changes, the patient still continues to get depressed about something. It is the depression that needs treatment. The same principle applies to other adverse moods and states of mind.

The patients mood is usually indicated by his reaction to his physical complaint, work on those lines and give the appropriate remedy.

Once again we want to stress the utter simplicity of Dr. Bachs system of healing. In our complex modern world simplicity comes all too often as a surprise to the average person, who tends to the erroneous belief that to be important a thing must be complicated; yet all the great teachings and truths have had the simple foundation. Even in the world of science most laws and discoveries have a simple basis once their cause and reason is fully disclosed.

We are working for harmony, harmony of spirit, mind and body and with it health and happiness. Dr. Bach wrote: Science is tending to show that life is harmony--a state of being in tune, and that disease is a discord, or a condition when a part of the whole is not vibrating in harmony.

Prescribing the flower remedies is not a complicated thing. No knowledge of psychology is needed. One has simply to listen to the very words used by the patient. Some may say that they are unable to dig out the symptoms and so flower remedies are not useful in such cases. This is because they consider it a serious or big thing when we write that flower remedies are prescribed on mind symptoms. Let us now examine cases of colic cured by us by simply listening to the words uttered by the patient and matching a remedy for that symptom. (All that a Bach practitioner is required to do is just to listen to the expression of the sufferer and try to find the remedy for that expression.) A boy of thirteen walked into our consulting room the other evening saying: I have been having acute pain in my abdomen for the last two days. We did not put any question to him. After a moments pause he continued I feel as if I should grasp that painful spot and put it aside. This was a clear case of CRAB APPLE which cured him in a single dose.

Let us take the instance of a person who attributes his colic to the food taken in a hotel where at the present day we can expect unhygienic conditions and no good preparations. Same CRAB APPLE.

Another person may say: I know hotel food is bad for me. My friend forcibly took me there and I went with him just to give company. It is because of him I am now suffering. In this he blames his friend for his colic. WILLOW is the remedy or, another person says: I should not have accompanied him to the hotel. It is my mistake. I am myself responsible for getting this trouble. PINE will cure him.

A third person say: I wish to I had not taken the food. I feel even nausea on thinking of that food. This is regret for past mistakes or unpleasant incidents and HONEYSUCKLE is the remedy for him. (In homeo, Colchicum etc.)

I know it was bad for my belly. But when he invited me I could not resist the temptation. The result is colic. CHERRY PLUM is the remedy for this patient.

If, on the other hand, he blames the hotel owner for improper preparation or contamination due to uncleanliness, WILLOW IS the remedy for him.

Yesterday I took some food in the hotel with my friend. You know they don't clean neatly the plates; naturally that contamination has caused the pain in my abdomen. CRAB APPLE is the remedy

We suggest that as one of the best ways to grasp the picture of the various flower remedies the Bach Practitioner can do as under:

In a movie or drama, or a novel, he should identify the various events with their respective remedies. The hero falls in love with the heroine. The Villain comes in. This is jealousy. HOLLY should be thought of to be given to the Villain. The Villain is a dominating type and so orders his assistants to murder the hero - this symptom is covered by VINE remedy. The heroine dies in an accident. CHICORY should be compared for the consequent state of the hero, and so on.
